Description

Our round compass rose inlay is slightly different to our star inlays but very similar to the round compass rose inlay. With the compass rose inlay, the diagonal pieces do not meet in the centre like the star inlay. These pieces stop when they meet the vertical and horizontal pieces. Like the stars, the compass roses are handmade from sycamore and dyed black 0.5mm thick veneer. Each compass rose inlay is made up of 16 pieces and each piece is in alternate veneer as it goes around. With the round compass rose, the vertical and horizontal points are the same length and width, with the diagonal points slightly shorter. We can make these inlays mirror paired, for example if the sycamore starts at the top left, on the next inlay we can start with the black veneer.

The background sapele veneer doesn’t come with the marquetry inlay.
